The client(s) for Tropic Resorts, Inc. are the owners of two apartment rentals on Pompano Beach, Florida.

They are looking to advertise their product over the internet in order to reach a broad audience of vacationers. Many of their customers are Canadians and US midwesterners.

They also advertise locally through newspaper ads, brochures and word of mouth.

What are they selling?

  • Mid-priced vacation accommodations in a resort environment.
  • Fun, relaxation, sun, beach and ocean.
  • Close proximity to many popular tourist attractions.
What niche does it fill?
  • Beachfront efficiency apartments in a rapidly dwindling market-many of the smaller efficiencies have been torn down and replaced with high-rise, private condominiums.
  • Ironically, because of the above statement, the beaches here are clean, quiet and uncrowded year round.
  • Unusual to find a mid-priced vacation apartment literally on the beach in the Gold Coast region.
  • Nice accommodations, cozy environment (only 60 units), well maintained.

What is their perfect customer?
  • Retirees, who are often long term vacation renters-up to 6 months in winter.

What are their visitors tech capabilities?

  • Low tech, dial-up modems, basic computer systems, older version browsers and OS's. Many do not own a computer.
  • Many of the French Canadian customers have access only to 28.8 modems at this time.
  • Retirees, if computer literate, tend to be proficient in email and using the internet, but are hesitant to send personal information over the net. Low use of site forms, credit card payments for reservation deposits, etc.
  • It is interesting to note that previous customers that reside in the midwest area of the US are WebTV users. They bring their WebTV boxes with them.

*Design note: create a simple, easy to use, accessible site.

  • Travel tips page. Users could send in their best tips.

What does the competition offer?
  • In this price range of accommodations, competitor's sites lack a professional feel.
  • Sites are too "busy", almost present too much information.
  • Some are not intuitively navigated.
  • Rate information unclear and even lacking in some instances.
